Dear Jana and Peter:
How can I ever thank you for what you have provided for my parents and for me?
As you know, my parent’s lives changed in a flash. Within one year they went from living in their own condominium and my father driving a car to both requiring assisted living. Mom fell and broke her hip while still recovering from knee replacement surgery. At the same time, Dad was diagnosed with early Alzheimer’s. I had one week to find them a new living arrangement.
When I walked into your care home, I knew I wanted my parents living there. I met friendly and warm caregivers and residents who were obviously thriving in their environment. Most were at the dining table and some had family with them. Each family member told me how much better their loved one was doing physically and mentally now that s/he had moved into the house.
In the year that Mom and Dad have been at the Villa on Sweetwater, I can say the same. They have settled into a routine that includes meals with the other residents, exercise classes, walks in the backyard garden, visits from scout troops, a variety of activities, and excellent care 24/7. They are thriving! Mom is stronger and healthier than she was one year ago and although Dad’s memory loss has continued, he is happy and content just to be there with his sweetheart. Someone is always available to help them and that brings me peace of mind. They are safe and loved!
I saw many homes in the stressful week of searching for the right one. Others had told me that I would just know which one to select and to trust my instincts. It was clear that you truly love and respect your residents and the families that place them. You do all that you can to provide a quality of life for people whose worlds have been drastically narrowed and at the same time, keep them healthy and safe. You respect the families and their struggles and the lines of communication are always open. Most importantly, you are careful to hire staff who reflect your values and treat the residents with dignity and respect.
Any care home can provide food and shelter. You have created a loving, extended family.

No words can express the gratitude that we have for all of the hard work, efforts and love that all of you so selflessly gave to the care of both of our parents: Lou & Emily. We were so very lucky to have found you eleven looonngg years ago! This profession that you all are in is more of a vocation than a job. It takes special individuals with a special calling to give it their best every day, as all of you so miraculously did. Each of you went above and beyond the call of duty with creativity to adapt to all of the needs that would arise to help preserve our parent’s dignity, welfare and respect. It helps that all of you have a great sense of humor. We cannot, again, say enough…we appreciate you. I know that the everyday work you do is thankless and requires an endless abundance of patience.

As a hospice nurse, I often visit patients at Colten Adult Care, and it is an honor to write this letter on their behalf. Jana & Peter provide excellent [memory] care for all of their residents. Their [senior] caregivers are compassionate, loving and respectful and always treat the residents with the utmost dignity. They understand medication administration, preventative care, and most importantly, are big hearted individuals who love what they do. They treat all residents like a member of their family.
I am continually impressed by the cleanliness of the facilities and the warm environment that is maintained for the residents. The manager is always available to discuss resident care and she continually seeks opportunities to meet with families and ensure the best care for the residents. I truly enjoy the opportunity of working with such kind-hearted individuals.

I continue to spread the word around regarding your [assisted living] services. I never thought I could be happy having Lenore stay in a care facility away from her own home. However, the care workers at Sweetwater Place have been so beyond my high expectations.
I recently took Lenore to the Mayo clinic. Her doctor made a remark (without any prompting) that Lenore is very well taken care of. He proceeded to tell me and my mom that he sees so many older people who are living in care facilities of all types. According to him, most of these people are not well groomed, are dehydrated, have unhealthy skin and basically look disheveled and poorly taken care of. He expressed surprise as to how well Lenore’s skin was, how well groomed she was, and generally that she was in great health due to the excellent care she was receiving.
Furthermore, I speak to Lenore practically every day. And every day she says that the girls taking care of her are very nice and helpful. This is coming from a woman who has been extremely critical of people all of her life and always wants to be the center of attention!
So, my family and I thank you for taking such good care of Lenore. It gives me great comfort (and I can sleep at night now).
